Monmouth-NJ at Pittsburgh
When: 7:00 PM ET, Monday, November 18, 2019
Where: Petersen Events Center, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

All of a sudden, Petersen Events Center hasn't been the homecourt advantage it had been in the past for the Pittsburgh basketball team. The Panthers will try to snap a rare losing streak at "The Pete" when Monmouth visits on Monday night in an opening round campus game of the Fort Myers Tip-Off.

Pitt fell to West Virginia 68-53 on Friday in the 187th addition of the Backyard Brawl, its second straight home loss in non-conference play in the month of November and just the fourth non-conference loss since the building opened in the 2002-03 season. The Panthers offense continued to struggle, shooting 29.1 percent from the floor, including 2-of-12 from the arc, to drop its season percentages to 38.7 percent and 30.3 on 3-pointers. “Well, I think in three of our first four games, what teams have done is to try to be disruptive defensively and try to get the ball out of Trey [McGowens] and Xavier [Johnson’s] hands to make them be decision makers," Pitt second-year coach Jeff Capel said. "In a game like this, Florida State, and even a little bit against Nicholls, you can’t run offense, you have to play offense. We have to improve greatly in that area. Monmouth has lost three straight games since an opening-game win over Lehigh, including a 112-57 thrashing by No. 3 Kansas on Friday.

TV: 7 p.m. ET, ACC Network

ABOUT MONMOUTH (1-3): Deion Hammond led all Hawks with 17 points, while reserve Ray Salnave added 11 points but shot 1-of-10 in his fourth straight double-digit scoring effort, as Kansas jumped to a 21-2 lead and never looked back. The 6-3 Salnave (14.0 points, 3.8 rebs, 3.0 asts, 21.2 minutes) leads the team in scoring with the 6-4 Hammond chipping in 13.3 points on a team-best 33 3-point attempts. Nobody else averages more than 5.5 points.

ABOUT PITTSBURGH (2-2): McGowens scored 13 points against West Virginia, freshman Justin Champagnie 12 and Ryan Murphy 11 for the Panthers, who trailed by one at the half but scored just 18 points on 3-of-25 (12 percent) shooting thereafter The Panthers' backcourt trio of Murphy (15.5 points), McGowens (14.5) and Johnson (8.5) combine to average 38.5 points per game - 60 percent of Pitt's scoring. Terrell Brown is averaging 7.8 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.0 blocks per game, while shooting a team-high 61.1 percent (11-of-18) from the field.

TIP-INS

1. Pitt has not lost three consecutive non-conference home games since the 1967-68 season when the Panthers dropped their final four home games of the season.

2. Johnson's season-long slump continued with four points and five turnovers against the Mountaineers, and the 6-3 sophomore has 11 points in his last two games and is shooting 31.4 percent for the season. Johnson scored in double figures in all but five games last season.

3. The Hawks are 2-22 against current ACC members.
